Oliver Twist and...

Something a little different this today: if your interested in doing about Oliver Twist and are looking for worksheets to go with it click here: Penguin readers resource for Oliver Twist.  It's not done on the unabridged version but Penguin readers own version found on Amazon here.

Meet our cat Marley, nothing to do with the blog but she let me take pictures today so her she is.

I thought it would be good to do a review on how worth while and enjoyable for the child this resource would be if you used the unabridged version to read from.  I turns out, strangely enough that some of the questions aren't possible if you don't read the penguin reader's version of Oliver Twist -you have to read page 68 to find out sort of questions are in it - however Chiara did enjoy trying to answer as many of them as she could that didn't relate to reading a particular page first.  Being that it was very long she's decided to do half of the questions today and leave the other half for next week.

Another place with free worksheets related to reading, if you're not into reading Oliver Twist, is here;  Naomi really enjoyed doing one of these today.  Free print-outs are always worth having a peek at when one is home educating.

What else happened?  Well, we have discovered the reason for H's grumps recently are; H's little toothy pegs at the back are coming through.  I feel so sorry for her.  She is so so clinging and so so sad more on than off today.  At dinner it got so bad that she just cried and then asked for 'med' (by this she means medicine) she must have been in pain, she only ever asks for 'med' when she's really poorly.  Bless her she's asleep now and I hope she feels better in the morning.

Actually I've noticed recently that H shortens a lot of words at the moment:  wat (sounding like wart) for water; med for medicine and but for button are the ones I know she uses so far.  I'm not sure why she shortens them yet but I have a sneaky suspicion, as like most things H does, it's something to do with copying HB!  HB has started to say Da for Daddy, she's always called me Ma so I'm not 100% yet, but I'll be keeping an ear out.

We spent some time with more science experiments in preparation for Monday Science HE groups.  I'm really looking forward to Monday, although I'm still yet to get the light bulb working.  I went to Maplin today and had a chat with a lady who seemed to know a bit more than me about it.  I'm set to try again tomorrow.  I really hope it works, if it does, without a doubt it will be on my science page very soon!
