Another thing I wanted to mentioned was that a few days ago Naomi decided she wanted to start reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, she'd seen the film a few months ago and was in stitches. I couldn't find any in the library and prayed that I could find some cheap in a charity shop. The next day we popped into a charity shop we don't normally go to and guess what? Yes, they have 5 on the shelf. Apparently they had had a whole box full and this was all that was left. I came out of that shop with 5 of them 2 hard back and 3 paperbacks and a quality set of 4 postman pat puzzles all for £4. I do love a bargain! It took Naomi 2 days to read the first book and she's already on the second one.

Back on the subject of children learning to read, I always let them guide we to what they like. Naomi said no to these books for a long while and when opened a page of one at Waterstones this week and feel in love with them. They font style, the lines the pictures. She read them and loved the humour. She has visual stress, as I have mentioned before, so any book she finds easy to read more than ok by me! I was saying to a friend on Facebook that I have an urge to read one now, especially as the film made me laugh so hard. What can I say, I am a big kid.
It's our local HE Science group this Monday and I am preparing a few new science projects. I will post them on here very soon. All are really good fun and are toys for the children to play with afterwards. I'm really looking forward to it and so are my girls.
my daughter loves these (i have read them too) it was the thing that really hooked her on reading. She is really cross that he doesn't write as fast as she reads as she has run out! she is now reading the David Walliams books and loving them.
ReplyDeleteFor a girl that hated reading so much that she wouldn't even let me read to her for a while.
Charity shops can be fantastic sources for books and we check two of our local ones on a weekly basis. We're still surprised to be able to regularly pick up children's books in pristine, unread condition. A particularly good find is always a welcome addition to our book shelves.
